Yerucham Yeshiva Keren Tzedaka (Charity Fund)

Long-term solutions

Our objective is not just to provide localized, short-term monetary aid but to try to achieve long-term solutions by teaching principles of budgeting and household management. We work with local social workers in order to provide professional assistance, and adhere to the halachot of tzedaka and spirit of the Torahh.

Contributions

The fund makes donations for specified needs such as food, payments for electricity, and more.

Chagim projects

The Fund distributes food packages to about 150 families three times a year; before Rosh Hashanah, Purim and Pesach.

Subsidizing medications

Together with the local Kupat Cholim (Health Fund), we locate families and senior citizens who cannot afford to buy the medications they need, and we help subsidize Loans and economic consultations these necessary purchases.

Loans and economic consultations

The Fund operates a Gamach for interest-free loans, as dictated by the Torah. When necessary we also provide professional financial guidance, via local Yerucham people, to inculcate economic self-sufficiency and responsibility in managing household budgets.

Work stipends

We provide work stipends to the unemployed for community work. In other words, we pay unemployed people to carry out various projects in the community such as performing home repairs or doing housework for disabled senior citizens etc. We view these projects as an important stage in advancing people to the goal of "real" employment, as well as benefiting the community in the process.

Income sources

Our Keren Tzedaka (Charity Fund) is based on contributions alone. We are proud of the fact that 99% of our contributions reach their destination, except for small sums we pay for bank charges. We do not take anything else off for overhead expenses, and all our workers are volunteers with a strong mission to assist the local population and really make a difference.

In the last year (2005), the turnover of the Fund was about 480,000 NIS.
